HAKONE, JAPAN – Big news for anyone who loves Hakone: Hotel Okura is opening its very first resort in Japan, and it’s set to change how travelers experience this famous hot spring region.
Opening in 2029, Okura Resort Hakone Gora will offer something truly special. All 58 rooms will come with their own private outdoor hot spring bath—real Owakudani hot spring water, just for you. No sharing, no reservations, just your own private onsen.
Hotel Okura is working with Nishimatsu Construction, a partnership formed in 2025, to bring this ambitious project to life. The resort will sit right in Hakone Gora, a destination visited by nearly 20 million people a year for its beautiful scenery and relaxing thermal waters.
Designer Gwenael Nicolas is creating a peaceful “Forest Hideaway” look for the resort, blending modern comfort with natural surroundings. Guests will also enjoy indoor hot springs, saunas, delicious teppanyaki meals, and a cozy bar lounge.
With all these features, the resort aims to offer one of the most relaxing and luxurious stays in all of Hakone.
