Despite the document’s implications, Matlala’s testimony did not suggest any wrongdoing by Ramaphosa.
The commission’s proceedings delved into Matlala’s association with Senona, whom he described as an “older brother.” Matlala disclosed that Senona provided him with a loan of R20,000 following a police raid on his Pretoria property in December 2024. Further allegations arose from Matlala concerning suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya. He claimed that Sergeant Fannie Nkosi played a role as a go-between in the alleged solicitation of money from individuals in the Gauteng region. However, Matlala refrained from naming these individuals, citing his right against self-incrimination due to ongoing separate criminal proceedings involving him.
