To enhance their competitiveness with Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs should focus on acquiring more seasoned Bafana Bafana players, according to former defender Tsepo Masilela. Masilela emphasized the importance of integrating established national team talent to consistently vie for top honors in South African football.
Highlighting the current squad’s potential, Masilela pointed to goalkeeper Brandon Petersen and attacking midfielder Mduduzi Shabalala as players who could soon become regular fixtures in the national team. However, he noted that for Shabalala to secure a spot in the Bafana Bafana squad, he must consistently deliver strong performances and improve his goal-scoring contributions.
The Chiefs legend also suggested that the club should consider signing Sphephelo “Yaya” Sithole, identifying him as an ideal candidate to bolster the team. Masilela stressed the need for a robust defensive midfielder to enhance the squad’s midfield dynamics and provide a solid backbone alongside existing players.
Although Kaizer Chiefs have already made new additions in preparation for the 2026/27 season, Masilela believes that bringing in proven South African internationals will be key to reclaiming their status as major trophy contenders. This strategy, he argues, is essential for the club’s ambition to recapture former glories and maintain a competitive edge in the league.
