Cape Town is set to undergo a planned 10-hour power outage this weekend as part of crucial maintenance and upgrades to its electricity infrastructure. The outage is scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, and continue until 8 a.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2026. This initiative aims to enhance the reliability and resilience of the power supply across the city.
The power interruption will affect more than 60 areas in the southern parts of Cape Town, including Muizenberg, St James, Clovelly, Fish Hoek, Kalk Bay, Simon’s Town, Sun Valley, Noordhoek, Kommetjie, Ocean View, Masiphumelele, Steenberg, and Westlake. The City of Cape Town has communicated that these measures are part of an ongoing program to upgrade ageing infrastructure, which is essential for maintaining a stable electricity network.
Residents have been advised to switch off electrical appliances before the scheduled outage to prevent damage from possible power surges when electricity is restored. The city has also cautioned residents to consider all electrical installations as live during the maintenance period, even if the power appears to be off.
