South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has stepped back from public engagements upon advice from his medical team after returning from the BRICS Summit held in New Delhi. While the specific details of his condition remain undisclosed, the Presidency confirmed that he has been advised to rest and recuperate.

Ramaphosa attended the 18th BRICS Summit, which took place from September 12 to 13, focusing on topics such as global governance, economic cooperation, trade, and development. The summit brought together leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa to discuss strategic alliances and collaborative opportunities.

In light of Ramaphosa’s temporary withdrawal from his duties, South African ministers are set to represent him at upcoming public engagements. This arrangement ensures continuity in government operations and the fulfillment of delegated responsibilities during his recovery period.

Meanwhile, Deputy President Paul Mashatile is also recovering from a medical procedure, further necessitating the delegation of leadership duties within the South African government. Despite the absence of its top leaders in some capacities, the government maintains that functionality and decision-making processes continue as usual through established protocols in their respective offices.
