by admin477351

South Africa is bracing for severe weather as six active yellow-level warnings have been issued across five provinces, indicating threats from damaging winds, disruptive rainfall, and severe thunderstorms. The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has flagged three Yellow Level 4 warnings. One of these alerts pertains to hazardous wind and wave conditions, stretching along the coastline from Alexander Bay in the Northern Cape to Plettenberg Bay in the Western Cape. These conditions are expected to pose significant risks to ports, harbours, and marine navigation.

Another Yellow Level 4 warning highlights the potential for damaging winds across parts of the Northern and Western Cape, where infrastructure, temporary structures, and utilities could face the threat of damage. Meanwhile, the Western Cape is also under a Level 4 warning for disruptive rainfall, which could lead to flooding that may hinder roads, settlements, and traffic flow.

In addition to these, three Yellow Level 2 warnings are currently in place. The Eastern Cape coast and eastern areas are set to experience disruptive rainfall, while severe thunderstorms are expected in the western Free State. These storms could bring with them strong winds, hail, lightning, and the possibility of falling trees.

Furthermore, a Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging winds has been issued for the western parts of the Western Cape and northern interior areas of the Eastern Cape. This warning indicates potential impacts on temporary structures, settlements, and transport routes. Residents are urged to exercise caution amid these varying weather threats.

Adding to the country’s weather challenges, SAWS has also cautioned about extremely high fire danger across central regions, including much of KwaZulu-Natal. With these conditions, authorities and communities are on high alert to mitigate potential damage and ensure public safety.
