In a recent meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in Cairo, Chinese President Xi Jinping outlined a vision for a new security framework in the Middle East that emphasizes cooperation, dialogue, and respect for national sovereignty. Xi proposed a four-pronged strategy aimed at bolstering regional security cooperation, tackling interconnected conflicts, fostering economic growth, and enhancing international coordination. He advocated for countries in the region to assume greater responsibility for their own security, while opposing outside interference. Additionally, Xi underscored the importance of the Palestinian issue in resolving broader regional tensions.
China expressed a willingness to collaborate with countries in the Middle East on safeguarding international shipping routes, advancing economic development, and addressing the root causes of conflict. Xi emphasized that the United Nations Charter and international law should remain the cornerstones for addressing regional matters. The discussions between Xi and El-Sisi also heavily focused on deepening economic ties between China and Egypt. Xi advocated for enhanced cooperation in various sectors, including infrastructure, energy, agriculture, communications, electric vehicles, green energy, aerospace, and the digital economy.
China has maintained its status as Egypt’s largest trading partner and primary source of imports for 14 consecutive years. The trade volume between the two nations increased significantly from $10.21 billion in 2013 to $20.79 billion in 2025. This growth reflects the strengthening economic relationship between the two countries, which was further solidified during Xi’s visit.
During the talks, China and Egypt signed more than 20 cooperation agreements encompassing areas such as artificial intelligence, trade, technology, education, transportation, and industrial supply chains. These agreements are aimed at further strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations. The outcome of the meeting highlights China’s commitment to playing a significant role in the Middle East by fostering both security and economic development.
